Hi, I’m Macey a final year student nurse. I have been given the incredible opportunity to spend 3 weeks working full time as a student nurse unpaid abroad, and I have chosen IloIlo Philippines.
I’ll be travelling solo, in June which is both very exciting and scary because I’ve never done anything like this before but I’ll also meet other students from across the world who will be in my student house when I am there giving me the chance to learn and grow alongside peers who have the same passion and interests as me
This placement is entirely self funded I’ll be working for free volunteering my time, covering my own flights, accommodation, insurance, vaccinations and paying for transportation to and from hospitals whilst I am there.
During my time in IloIlo for the I will be supporting emergency care working in both paediatrics and outpatients clinics. I will also be exposed to tropical diseases like dengue fever and rabies that we are lucky enough not get here in the UK. I will be spending time in the animal bites clinic helping adults and children with everything from dog to snake bites. I will also be spending some time in the burns clinics.
I will be caring for a range of different ages from newborn, children, adults and elderly.
I’ve realised that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that will help further my career in nursing and bring me out of my comfort zone aswel as make a meaningful difference to those who are not as fortunate as us.
All donations will go directly towards essential costs- flights, visas, transport, insurance and vaccinations.
Every contribution bit or small will bring me closer to this chance to make meaningful differences in patients lives.
Thankyou
PS: I will be sharing lots of updates and photos during my 3 weeks in the Philippines. you can follow my journey from travelling to coming home and everything in between so you will be able to see the impact of your donations.
