Mace Windu the three legged cat needs surgery
Hey there! My name is Chase Forrester, and I am asking for your help. Our amazing, friendly, resilient three legged cat, Mace Windu, got out of our house and was shot in his one good back leg, shattering his femur.
Pictured here is the pellet and his broken leg
He was found by a caring neighbor and brought to Animal Care Clinic who scanned him for a microchip and called me on May 18th, notifying me of the situation. I immediately left work and drove straight to the clinic, assuming the worst. Dr. Anderson gave me several options: I could bring Mace to a specialist who could perform surgery and plate his shattered leg, or his leg could be splinted at ACC and would hopefully heal in 6-8 weeks. Mace had options. All the while Mace was purring away, making friends at the clinic, remaining calm, cool, and collected, handling the whole situation with more grace and composure than I was.
Mace, always sweet. Always trusting.
Surgery seemed invasive and was, frankly, cost prohibitive, and I opted for the splint. His leg would be supported and his recovery would potentially be faster. Mace spent a week at the vet learning how to manage daily life with two front legs and a splinted back leg.
Mace was so happy to come home.
He came home, promptly climbed the the baby gate we were intending to use to enclose him to the hallway where we had set up plenty of beds, a shallow litter box, and plenty of food. We thought Mace would want peace and quiet and would have trouble getting around, but Mace could not be stopped. He made it clear that nothing would keep him from living his normal life as part of our household.
He learned how to use the litter box, climb onto furniture, and in general get around at an alarming speed. All the while he never lost his friendly, talkative demeanor.
On Friday, June 25th his leg was x-rayed and that’s when we got the bad news: his leg wasn’t healing. The only option is surgery. He has an appointment on the sixth of July at Huntsville Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Clinic. We were informed of the projected cost. It will be between $3,000 and $3,800. Mace has proven time and time again his adaptability and will to live and I just have to give him this chance. My ego cannot play into my choice to ask for help. Mace deserves this. Please feel free to share this campaign far and wide; we need all the help we can get. Thank you for your time and compassion and more than anything please keep this incredible guy in your thoughts.
