Andrea and Wade MacDonald and their children Teshia and Dylan are from Pleasant Grove PEI. Like many families they have recently been touched by cancer.
On Friday May the 3rd their 20 year old son Dylan had some routine blood work done at the QEH in Charlottetown. The blood was drawn around 2pm and Dylan went about his day. At 6pm the hospital called him and stated he needed to return right away, as a doctor would be waiting for him at the ER. It was then he and his parents received the devastating news that his blood test revealed that he has leukemia. By 9pm he was loaded into an ambulance and taking to the Victoria General in Halifax with his mother by his side.
Currently the doctors in Halifax are waiting on the test results from a bone marrow test. This test will give the medical team more information on what type of leukemia he is faced with and more details on the treatment plan. So far they are saying he will be here for a month at least, with more details to come.
This news has come on the heals of diagnoses of lung cancer in Andrea's Mom Sandra. As one could imagine, this is all taking a very big toll on the MacDonald family, both emotionally and financially.
(*update* - Andrea sadly lost her mom to this horrific illness. Thank you to all who have supported her during this difficult time)
Currently Andrea is working as a manger of a local coffee shop and will need time off to care for her son (and mother). She will be staying in Halifax with Dylan as much as possible, and Wade will travel back and forth as needs be. Dylan too will be off work, and will lose his income. Our aim is to support this family during this difficult time, by helping cover the costs of travel, food and bills. We would like to raise $2000 as soon as possible, as these bills will add up quickly.
Thank you,
Mandy and Alex Reynolds
(sister and brother in-law to Andrea)
