Hi! My name is Paula, and I am asking for some help in providing medical support for my dachshund Mabel.
Over the weekend Mabel went from being her gorgeous energetic ditzy self to a frightened little girl without the use of her back legs. It was scary for both of us. All of this was very sudden and unexpected as I was originally told by my vet that conservative care (crate rest) would be all that was needed … but things just took a massive turn overnight resulting in loss of feeling and loss of movement (she couldn't wag her tail and look so upset at becoming incontinent). Emergency surgery became her only option to try and prevent permanent paralysis.
We have been so fortunate to have been able to access care at Vita Referrals who have been just amazing and under their care they have operated on Mabel’s spine. Her full recovery is yet uncertain and she will certainly need an extended period of physiotherapy to start on that road.
Earlier this year I lost my other beautiful dachshund Martha to cancer, and along with Mabel's ear surgery that she also needed this year life is feeling a little hard at present. I managed to cover Martha's and Mabel’s other medical bills myself but as a crafter making dachshund harnesses it is going to take many months to rebuild those funds and IVDD surgery and follow-up care is a whole other level of cost - £5,400 for surgery alone.
I am hoping that there are some kind people reading this who will look down the back of the sofa for some spare change to help support Mabel's medical costs.
All monies raised will go directly to her vet bills and physio.
Thank you for you consideration
Paula and Mabel.
xx
