Mabel Nipshank healing from fractured leg
Hi everyone! I’m Cease Wyss, and I’m helping my dear friend Mabel who fractured her leg last week. She really needs moral and financial support to get through this challenging time. She has limited family members who are helping, but she could really use some help to hire a neighbour that she trusts, to help her keep her home clean and clear during her healing time. She is on crutches and needs to keep a clear path throughout her home.
Mabel works as an elder support worker in the DTES and provides support to folks who need a kind elder to talk to and do basic ceremonial healing with.
She’s fiercely independent and this injury has really been hard for her navigate, and find the proper resources in the community to get through her basic needs. She’s an elder who has never retired, who doesn’t have any savings, and lives on her own. She has limited sick pay days and certainly not anywhere near enough to take 6-8 weeks off of work to stay home and heal, and to access the support that she requires.
She loves to eat local, seasonal and fresh organic foods and she usually keeps her home quite tidy. She has a little balcony garden that she requires help with watering, which her neighbour and family members can help her with.
This has been a big shift for her to adjust to. So anything that you can help with will be greatly and humbly appreciated by her.
She has helped so many folks with her humble and kind way of being, and the fact that as an elder she lives independently and offers support to many people she doesn’t always know, is a testament to her kindnesses and her character strength.
Thank you for taking a moment to learn about her, and whether you donate to her fundraiser or simply share this with your networks, we greatly appreciate your support.
