Hello all, we are Maan and Jyoth Sidhu, more commonly known as the Sidhu twins. Thank you so much for giving your time to read this - we appreciate it! Anyone who knows us can instinctively link us to field hockey. This sport is integral to the core of who we are and it’s something we aspire to be better at every single day of our lives. Our passion was originally ignited through our parents and elder brothers who are equally as passionate and infatuated with this sport. Through them, we aspire to become world class field hockey players - a statement we take very seriously.
From the day we could first walk and hold our own, our father, who we believe passed down the ‘field hockey genes’, made us do tiring, boring and repetitive drills for hours. We’d question him on why he would be so hard on us - why he was so strict with our practice. But now, we realise the benefit of our discipline. All these past years of presumably futile drills have finally come into fruition, leading us to this moment. We have both been selected to play for the Junior Men's National Field Hockey team, a reality that we still find hard to fathom. We are the first set of twins to ever compete and represent Canada at a Junior National level. This means absolutely everything to not only to us, but our loving and dedicated parents, for whom our gratitude is immeasurable. They sacrificed everything for us, have supported us in every step, and have gotten us to where we are today. We never thought that the same twins playing mini hockey in the basement of our first house, would one day lead to represent our family, our country, and our Sikh community on such a high and prestigious platform. After finishing 2nd Place at the Junior Pan American Championships, we with immense blessings from Vaheguru, are going to play in the 2023 Junior World Cup this December in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With hopes to make history with Canada’s best finish at a Junior World Cup.
It feels surreal that the two of us who grew up together, played together and shared almost everything with each other now have the opportunity to compete at an international level together. Although we would stop at absolutely nothing to make sure we participate in this once-in-a-lifetime event, certain circumstances are out of one’s control. In order for us to attend this event we must pay about $10,000 each out of our own pockets in order to have this dream come true. The addition of the fact that the both of us are participating in this competition doubles and creates a hefty financial load onto our humble family and us. So we sincerely request that you consider supporting and contributing to this dream of ours. Donating even the slightest amount is incredibly gratifying and would mean more to the both of us than we could possibly put into words. We hope you support us so we can represent you. Regardless of your decision, we would like to thank you for your consideration.
