Hi my name is Darcy Reid some of you may know as Biggum or Jermaine I am paralyzed except for my left arm. I am trying to purchase a use wheelchair accessible vehicle so I can go home and be with my kids and grand daughter. I would love to  be able to go to family functions including church. I am not able to slide board transfer into a regular vehicle. If I had I had a wheelchair accessible vehicle I would be able to be more self efficient instead of being confined to this nursing facility. The only reason I am here is because my wife has no way to transport me. Before all of this happened to me I was a hard worker providing for my family. I don’t receive disability because I was a owner operator if I have known that it would penalize me I would have stayed in a factory but I didn’t see getting ahead in life at that occupation. I really don’t like asking for help but I have nothing else. They tell you about all the organizations that help people in my condition but all I hear is that we don’t have funding. But I’m continuously watching other people get help. On December 23rd 2019 I went into the hospital to get checked out because my back was hurting. In the process of the MRI and CT scan they determine that I had a abscess on my prostate. At that time because of the Christmas Holidays the local Urologist was gone for the holidays. So I was told it’s a simple procedure and they found another Facility that had a Urologist still there. I was already afraid of hospitals. But since it was a simple procedure I thought what the heck I’ll go. So arrived at the other facility they redid the MRI and CT scan and seen the Abscess. The Nurse was telling the Doctor that he had to wait because the Abscess had my blood sugar over 700. The Doctor said that he had to go ahead because his family was waiting on him and they were going on vacation. So he proceeded with the procedure to Lance the Abscess then he left. Now I was continuously  passing blood in the catheter bag. So the hospital redid the Scans and seen where something was wrong. Now after the hospital seen what was wrong they wouldn’t allow any other Doctor to touch me. So they had to force the Urologist to come back to correct the problem. Now the first surgery only took 1 hr but the second  surgery took 6.5 hrs. Now when this Doctor arrived backed at the hospital he had a attitude. How can you have a attitude about something that you did that caused this to me. So after that surgery my urine cleared  up but the damage was already did . I had lost so much blood that I ended up needing 7 units of blood . Now I was able to walk when I entered the hospital. So they proceeded to rescan me and then I coded. They was able to bring me back. Now after that MRI scan they saw that  I now had a  mass now on my spine. So then I was starting to have real bad spasms. So I ended up Coded again and when I finally regain conscious I had been transported to another Hospital. I already been through 2 back surgeries. The poison from the Abscess had traveled up my bloodstream and had put a abscess on every Vertebrae in my back. The  Doctor said they had never seen someone continue to live after something like that. I still didn’t know I was paralyzed. I thought that they had me scrapped to the bed because of the spasms I was having. At that time I was told I was paralyzed from the neck down and it was like I just Lost my life. Now I was really messed up in the mind because I didn't know what I was gonna do. Here I am a hard working man trying to figure out what I was going to do. I ended up on a ventilator because I couldn't breathe on my own. So doctors had to end up doing several other surgeries on my back so that my brain could respond with my vital organs. Since then I have been in and out of hospitals since. I was a truck driver I lost my trucks because I couldn’t afford them anymore. We lost our place to stay so we had to end up moving because my wife don't make the money that I made. It's been real hard on her with all these bills these different surgeries all the  care and because of the pandemic it has been so hard to get to and from therapy to the wound centers etc. We plan on trying to go back to Atlanta Georgia next year to see if I can get more therapy and learn how to do more things on my own.
