Willow's Healing Journey
Donation protected
A few days ago our world was flipped upside down. Dave and Val Dexter's youngest child, Willow was flown to Children's National and from there they were told that she has Leukemia. Through testing, they found out that she has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. The team here at Children's National has been so supportive and incredible during this time. They waste no time educating all of us and developing a treatment plan to irraticate this cancer from her. Willow has remained her cheerful positive self...even when told that she had cancer. She has spent her time making little "gifts" for the staff and handing them out. This is who she is...always thinking of others and always giving.
This will be a tough journey and we are asking if you can help the family pay for medical expenses not covered by insurance, gasoline and expenses to make at least weekly visits to Children's Hospital in DC, and help them with loss of time from work and wages.
Willow has Caringbridge Page if you would like to follow her journey, see updates or post messages or prayers.
There hasn't been much time to reflect on what's transpired over the last week. There really are no words. But we are in awe regarding the huge outreach and outpouring of love and support for her and her parents. Willow is aware that she has cancer...her treatments and the side effects ...at a 5 year-old level of course. Its much harder knowing the extent of all of this as an adult. The good news is that B-cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia has a very high cure rate with treatment and she is expected to be fully cured after 2 years of treatment. We are learning that our days will be full of ups and downs.
Thank you so very much for any help, even prayers for the future.
