One Year Later, the Stewart Family Needs Us Again
One year ago, on September 4th 2025, Ted “Chuck” and Danielle Stewart experienced the unimaginable loss of their 8-year-old son, McGregor.
This September 4th, on the first anniversary of that devastating day, their family found themselves facing another frightening and heartbreaking situation—this time with Chuck fighting through a serious medical crisis.
A few weeks ago, Chuck was hospitalized with kidney failure. During imaging of his kidneys, doctors unexpectedly discovered an abnormality in his lung. Further testing and a biopsy brought a diagnosis no family wants to hear: adenocarcinoma, a form of lung cancer.
On September 2nd, Chuck underwent surgery to remove the affected portion of his lung. Two days later, on September 4th—the anniversary of McGregor’s passing—his lung collapsed, and he had to be taken back into surgery. Thankfully, the doctors were able to save his lung.
Unfortunately, the complications have continued.
Chuck’s kidney function has now severely declined, and he has also developed atrial fibrillation. This morning, doctors performed another procedure to evaluate his lung and determined that, in order to give the remaining lung tissue the best chance, Chuck needs a stent placed in the lung.
That procedure cannot be performed at the hospital where he is currently receiving care, which means Chuck now needs to be transferred to another medical center.
At this time, the family does not yet know where he will be transferred or what the next several days and weeks will bring.
Dani is navigating all of this while also caring for their children and carrying the grief of the anniversary of losing McGregor.
They are fortunate to have family in Grand Forks who can currently help care for the kids, but depending on where Chuck is transferred, they may no longer have family nearby to help with lodging, meals, transportation, or the many other needs that arise when a loved one is hospitalized far from home.
This family needs their community again.
The expenses are already adding up and will continue to grow—medical bills, travel, gas, meals, possible lodging, time away from work, and all of the unexpected costs that come with a prolonged hospitalization and transfer for specialized care.
A year ago, so many people surrounded the Stewart family during the darkest time of their lives. Now, as they face another incredibly difficult chapter, we are asking that community to surround them once again.
If you are able to donate, any amount will help give Chuck and Dani one less thing to worry about while their focus needs to be on Chuck’s recovery and their children. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this GoFundMe and keeping Chuck, Dani, and their family in your thoughts and prayers.
They have already endured more than any family should have to carry. Let’s help make sure they don’t have to carry this part alone.
Please donate, share, and help us rally around the Stewart family once again.
