HELP BRING BILLY HOME
Donation protected
Nov 18th 2016 Willliam Harris (Billy) had a massive stroke. Doctors said he wouldnt make it through the night. They also advised that there was no amount of rehabilitation to help his condition. He would never get better or get out of bed. As a family we opted out of any life saving measures as no one would want to live like that. He lived through the weekend so we put him on Hospice and into a "home".
After a few weeks in Firlane (Rehabilitation Center), we noticed some improvement and reversed the DNR and started rehab.
At the home, they call him the "miracle man". While the left side is still paralyzed he is able to converse back and forth and eat 2 portions of regular food! No more puree. He easily gets from bed to wheelchair, goes to the bathroom himself with proper bars in place, dresses himself, shaves, reads books and has taught himself how to walk! I visit him 3-5 days a week and we go for walks, while I stay behind with his wheelchair, he gets about 15-20ft at a time. The downside still is, he is not fully in charge of his brain. At times he loses focus, drifts off and doesn't undestand directions. He often says dates, times and words that has nothing to do with the converstion we may have. However, he is VERY aware of where he is.
He BEGS me to take him home daily. This is where we need help. I live in a 600sqft 1 bedroom cabin that is not wheelchair friendly. I need to make the cabin wheelchair accessible, add a rehab room, move a wall for access, change doors so they are 3ft wide, change the tub into a walk-in/wheel-in shower, install alarm system for his safety, as well as, a fence around the yard and im sure other things as needed for him. He is not able to live on his own.
I have been quoted 40-50k for just the rehab room and specialized equipment. Will need to update electrical, add the changes to the bathroom, fence, etc.
ANY HELP to bring Billy home and give him as normal life as possible would be greatly appreciated!
