Help Fund Jonah Gibson's Ski Racing Dreams

Hello, my name is Jonah Gibson. I'm 16 years old, and I have big dreams to ski. My dream is to one day join the Canadian National Ski Team and become a professional ski racer. This summer, I have been given the opportunity to travel to New Zealand and participate in an intense 5-week training program. It is an opportunity I'm so honoured to be offered, and I hope I can attend with your help.

I live in Sudbury, Ontario but I race and train with the Elliot Lake Ski Racers. In a usual week, I spend Tuesday and Thursday nights training at Adanac Ski Hill in Sudbury, and spend all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday training in Elliot Lake at Mt. Dufour.

I'm currently a grade 11 student at Lo Ellen Park Secondary School, working hard to maintain an above-ninety-grade average, achieving honour roll status each year. I balance my academics with skiing, spending roughly 50 school days out of class per year.

As previously mentioned, I've been racing with the Elliot Lake Ski Racers, this year being my first year in FIS. I had amazing opportunities to participate in training camps and races in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta, Minnesota, and Italy. I have used these opportunities to propel myself forward, and I'm currently the 5th ranked male slalom racer for my age in Ontario. However, competing in the sport that I love comes with a price that becomes harder and harder for me and my family each season. I'm honoured to be given the opportunity to improve my skiing this summer in New Zealand, but it will cost my family and me upwards of 10 thousand dollars to attend. As much as my parents want to continue to support me as much as they can, I would be so grateful for help from my community to continue to tackle my dreams.

I love this sport so much, and being able to accept this opportunity to train in New Zealand would mean the world to me. Learning from the professionals at camps such as these is what teaches me vital skills to continue to improve my skiing at a crucial time in my ski career. I am so grateful for any support towards me and my family in pursuing racing. Thank you so much for believing in me!
