On July 16th, Our 18-year-old son Shane went for a ride on his motorcycle with a friend. At about 4:30 pm, they were riding when a car turned into Shane’s lane. He had approximately 3 seconds to react before he collided with the car and was thrown off the motorcycle. At the time of the accident, Shane was test driving a bike he was considering buying.
When his friend got to him, he was horrified to see Shane limp and his chest not rising! His friend started screaming his name, over and over, until he saw his chest rise.
EMS scooped up Shane, and once at Hospital, he was assessed and prepared for emergency surgery to repair his torn ascending aorta, stabilized his fragile pelvis fracture then airlifted to Iowa City Hospital in serious condition following day. Iowa City is under 2 hours away from our home in Des Moines, so I will stay here while Dave commutes for our daughter Faith.

Shane will be in the hospital for an undertenant amount of time.
When released from the hospital, he will need inpatient and outpatient therapy.
His recovery will be long and intense, and then we will need to modify the house for Shane to come home.
All this is going to be a strain on our family. I am staying in Iowa City with Shane while Dave travels to Des Moines to care for the dogs and help keep Faith in a routine. Dave has taken a leave of absence, so we will be without his income and relying just on my disability.
So we are hoping to raise enough money to get everything we need for Shane and have Dave be there for Faith full time as she prepares for her senior year of High School.
Please continue to Pray for our Shane, and Thank you for reading
Love,
Judy, Dave, Faith and Shane
