Blessings for Brantley

My grandson, Brantley, turned 1 year old on November 22, 2014.  In his first year of life, he has endured more than many will endure in a lifetime.  He was born prematurely and spent the first month of his life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units at Conemaugh Hospital and, eventually, Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, suffering from severe anemia.  He has already had 5 blood transfusions since his birth, and also had an intra-uterine blood transfusion a month before he even came into the world.  Although he has spent much time in Children's Hospital and is still undergoing treatment by a team of excellent physicians, the cause of Brantley's anemia has not yet been determined.  Many things have been ruled out, but a cause is not yet known.  He has also undergone one surgery for urological problems and will have a second surgery in July.  The doctors have stated there will, more than likely, be multiple surgeries to help correct this problem.  His severe anemia has also caused minor problems with his eyes (the doctors believe this will pass) and some muscular problems, which had delayed his ability to crawl and stand.  This has greatly improved with the assistance of weekly home therapy visits.  Recently, Brantley began a new medication, which has not even been approved by the FDA in the United States.  His doctors believe it will help with the urological problems and assist in making his surgeries less complicated.  It is only available in the U.K., and the cost is $200 per tube.  This is NOT covered by insurance.  This cost, along with the countless trips to Pittsburgh and an upcoming trip to Philadelphia to be evaluated by a doctor that specializes in mystery blood disorders, has placed an extreme financial burden on my daughter and her husband (Brantley's parents), who also have two other children to care for and support.  I am seeking donations to help pay for Brantley's medicine ordered from the U.K. and paid for entirely out of pocket.  This little boy is my hero.  Despite all that he has gone through -- the hospital stays, the needles, the poking, prodding and certain fear and confusion, he always has a smile and is such a loving soul.  Although it breaks my heart to watch him go through so much, he serves as an inspiration to all who know him, because he has obvious courage and provides us all with so much joy. .....each and every day.  We thank God for bringing him through so much already, and we have faith that He will continue to watch over him in the days and years to come.  Everyone has been so supportive and caring, and it is so appreciated.  In a world where so much is wrong, it is so refreshing and comforting to know there are still so many good, caring people in the world.  I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
