German Requena succumbed to depression at the age of 13. He attempted suicide by way of strangulation which resulted in anoxic brain injury. His parents were given two choices, both choices were a choice of love- let him go or let him live lying in a bed - alive but not living. They decided to let him live and explore any and all options and hope and pray for a miracle. German does not speak, he is fed through tubes, doesn't walk- he lays in his bed and depends on his nurses and his mother 100% of the time. He is in a persistent vegetative state. Although we have seen small progress in German, the Doctors do not see it that way and are not shy to express their lack of interest in treating German- they've given up on him. But not us- not his family and certainly not his parents. We've researched the benefits of brain cell treatments as well as hyperbaric oxygen treatment and his parents have had to pay for them100% out of pocket. His insurance has cut down on medical expenses, leaving his parents to have to spend hundreds a month purchasing needed supplies.
