My younger sister, Coleen Whitter, is 39 and lives on the lovely island of Jamaica with my parents and her 13-year-old daughter. She was diagnosed with stage II metastatic breast cancer in 2013. She subsequently had a mastectomy performed on her right breast in addition to chemotherapy and radiation treatments. She has been fighting this disease ever since.
Fast-forward to 2017 we found out that the cancer had spread to her lungs and bones. From September 2017 to April 2018 she underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatments to her spine. It then progressed to stage IV metastasized cancers.
Coleen went through another series of chemotherapy of which most of it cleared up (or so we thought!) leaving a small spot in her right lung. She was able to return to work for few days in between but recently started experiencing debilitating headaches. Her oncologist ordered an MRI which revealed that previously radiated tumor had tripled in size and another was still growing.
We were advised that she will need to undergo Stereotactic Radiation and there is currently no facility in Jamaica that can provide this treatment. Therefore, she will need to travel to Florida, USA to get this treatment done at a cost of approximately US$18,000 plus travel costs eg. airfare, accommodation, ground transportation, meal etc.
At this point, she remains strong but she is fighting for her life. We are pleading for a chance for her to live, for the benefit of her daughter, parents, siblings, other family members and friends.
We are very optimistic that with your help she can defeat this disease!!
It was a very difficult decision to develop the courage to create a Go Fund Me account but it has become necessary as we are struggling at this point to come up with the funds. We are desperate for help because we have exhausted all resources.
