Hi, my Name is Dustin, on Thursday August 7th we had a basement flood, 3 of the 4 exterior walls had water ingress from flash flooding caused by an atmospheric river in Airdrie. Our insurance only covered extended water damage instead of the full normal claim, after emergency services we have about 20,000 canadian in coverage left available.

In the process of remediation we have uncovered extensive asbestos in our basement along with structural issues that in most probably result in requiring the house to be torn down.

The only way we come close to breaking even is if our place sells as is without remediation and we cut and run, the second best outcome is a complete demolition and sale as an empty lot.

If we rebuild, nearly every scenario results in us being underwater, which means the house is worth negative right now and is a liability.

The structural issues stem from one of the previous owners having a furnace fire, I will not know until the demo starts if the house is salvagable or not, if it is we have multiple foundation cracks and flood mitigation projects to go through which will result in us being stuck in the house basically forever to break even.

My wife can't work and hasn't for years which means I'm the primary income earner and I fear this will break me.

Anything anybody can do will be appreciated, I'll update with pictures once we start opening the walls. I'm starting at 10000$ but I'll take whatever we can get, I'm honestly expecting zero and will soldier on.

All funds are doing direct into the rebuilt project, a detailed project budget will be out once I get the full contractor quotes.

basement demo and abatement starts Sept 15th. once we get the walls down we will see what we are working with, we might be ok thanks to your generous donations
