Frankie's Story
My son Frankie is 33 years old and lives with cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder. Despite being confined to a wheelchair, he is a happy, outgoing, and positive young man.
For a period of 10 years, Frankie had attended an adult day program Monday through Friday. As of last year, due to new regulations at Regional Center and the adult day facility, only non-power wheelchairs are permitted. He does not have a manual wheelchair because the power wheelchair is easier for him to operate and maneuver, while providing a bit of independence.
Cost
Unfortunately, insurance will not purchase a manual wheelchair for Frankie. The type of manual wheelchair that he needs to accommodate his physical disability is very costly.
The wheelchair needs to have the ability to recline in order to reduce the possibility of pressure sores. It would also need to have special seating and side guards for his lack of trunk control, adjustable leg rests to minimize swelling and contractures, and many other modifications suited to Frankie's needs.
Your Help is Needed
We have exhausted all other resources and are asking for your help solely for the benefit of Frankie's physical and mental well being. Frankie has been home this past year and is anxious to get back into a program as soon as possible. Thank you kindly for your support and donation.
