Friday September 27th our worlds were turned upside down when we lost our home, vehicles, and all of our possessions in a flash flood. We made it out with nothing but the clothes on our back. At 6:15 a.m when we recieved the notification to evacuate we tried only for one of our vehicles to stall in the high waters that had already covered our road off u.s 70. We then got in our other vehicle and attempted to leave only to get stuck. Upon returning to the house we sat and watched as the water continued to rise to the point it breached into our house. This was the same moment we received a notification of the dam being at max capacity. Within a matter of minutes we went from trying to move items higher to fighting for our lives. At this point while trying to escape we made our possible final calls to let family know we loved them if something happens, and kept fighting for survival. Upon realizing the doors had so much pressure on them from the water rising we decided to break out our bathroom window, grab our two animals, and attempt to climb out the window that was roughly 6'6 off the ground and swim to safety. At the last possible minute we made it out with the water already being above our heads and swam at an angle due to the current carrying us and made it to a bank located in our back yard. At this point we scaled the 15-20 ft bank falling and sliding multiple times until at last we made it to the top. The following days have been a matter of trying to survive, rebuild, and return to some sort of normalcy. We have both always been the type to try and save, work overtime, or do whatever it takes to not ask for help but unfortunately this instance is much bigger than just being able to work through it. This is why we're reaching out for help. Any amount helps, no amount is too small, as currently were only living off the clothes on our backs. We are down to 1 vehicle between us and have 2 girls as well that we need help getting clothes, school supplies, and any type of stuff for entertainment to help them stay occupied and adjust to a new lifestyle and normalcy.
