Race to end HPV

Donation protected
The first all Irish crew to take on the noman challenge are now raising much needed funds to battle HPV.  Shay Dunne, Kevin Loughnan, Jonathan Tucker, Jack Doyle and Maurice Sheehy will row continuously for 3 gruelling days under the blistering heat from Ibiza to Barcelona setting off on July 26th. The epic 320km journey will take an extreme physical and mental toll, with the crew battling sea sickness, unbearable heat and incredibly unpleasant living conditions.

**100% of funds raised goes to charity**

Rowing across an ocean or sea is like no other sport. Ocean rowing is as much about the crews ability to cope mentally, as it is about technique and physical strength. The endurance required will result in a once in lifetime adventure.

Given the current climate it's important to remember that although incredibly serious, Covid 19 is not the only problem we're facing. The HPV virus has taken far too many lives and has had a devastating affect on the lives of many Irish families.

HPV is the primary cause of cervical cancer and the causal agent in 5% of cancers, yet the vast majority of people remain unaware of the link between the two outside of cervical cancer. We aim to raise awareness about the connection between HPV, cancer in both men and women, and the vaccine which can protect against the virus.

Vaccination against HPV presents the best opportunity to prevent our daughters and sons from attaining a HPV-related cancer. The majority of people will come to contact with the virus at some stage in their lives, regardless of their sex. A gender-neutral virus therefore requires a gender neutral vaccination.

The noman vision is of a world where every country vaccinates both boys and girls against HPV. We work to influence policy so that gender-neutral vaccination becomes the gold standard of protection against HPV-related cancer.

It is vital that we educate parents that boys as well as girls are at risk for developing HPV-related illness. The disease burden caused by HPV includes cervical, penile, anal, vaginal, vulval and head & neck cancers. In fact, 5% of cancers are caused by HPV and develop in both men and women.
