Help Danielle during her heart transplant journey
Hi everyone. My name is Rob. I have a story about an amazing woman, who happens to be my wife. Her name is Danielle.
She was born with a serious heart condition. Let's just say that it was built backwards, and that it wasn't pumping the way it should. She received a pacemaker at a very young age to help her heart pump properly. She's gone through multiple surgeries throughout the years to get this pacemaker upgraded. A few years ago, she was told that the day will come that her heart will no longer be able to function, even with the pacemaker, and that It was time to consider being placed on a heart transplant list.
She rejected the idea at first. She couldn't accept the fact that somebody else has to die in order for her to survive. She kept saying no, she's not going through with it.
Back in September, she had to go to the emergency room. She had no feeling in her left leg. As it turned out, she had three blood clots. Emergency surgery was performed. These clots were caused by her weak heart.
After talking with her about a transplant multiple times by myself, and her family, she finally agreed. The blood clot incident opened her eyes and she felt the urge to survive. She wanted to be placed on the list! When we went to her doctors to tell them this amazing news, they said something that neither one of us were expecting. They said that her body was in such terrible condition, that it wouldn't be able to handle the stress of a heart transplant. Her body was way too weak. She was now determined more than ever to get her body well enough to endure this procedure.
She was hospitalized for a few months so that the doctors could monitor her and give her all the necessary medications she would need to build up her strength. Well, guess what, it worked. She got a bit stronger and therefore was placed on the heart transplant list. That amazing day was May 21st. A few days ago (July 19th), she received the phone call that a new heart was available for her. We drove to the Toronto General Hospital right away. She underwent the surgery and everything went well. She is currently in the ICU recovering from this amazing experience. The doctors are very optimistic. Danielle will cherish this gift of a heart forever.
All that being said, we are trying to raise money to help with the financial struggles we are experiencing. She has been off work for the past 11 months. I work full time, but have to take a lot of days off because of all her appointments. The new medications that she will be on are not cheap. Some of them will be covered, but some will not. If you are willing and able, we kindly ask for any donation that will help us during this difficult time.
