I was rushed to the closest hospital (San Antonio Regional Hospital).
I had a perforation in my intestinal wall that leaked fecal matter into my other organs.
The toxins poisoned my blood with the deadly MRSA bacteria aka (Bacteremia), and I went into "Severe Septic Shock".
The doctor told me after the surgery, that I would've been dead within 20 minutes, if I wouldn't have gotten there so quickly, and my chances of surviving after the surgery were less than 20%.
Part of my intestines had to be removed, and re-arranged. I'm left with a Colostamy, (which they will reverse, if they can ever get the infection to go away).
This year, I've been hospitalized Inpatient for 4+ months. I was eventually released to go home, and placed on "At Home Medical Care", with IV antibiotics. Within two weeks of at home care, paramedics came to pick me up again. I was in the absolute most SEVERE pain I had ever experienced in my life.
The paramedics had to drug me with high Doses of Ketamine just to get me in and out of the ambulance, due to excruciating pain.
The doctors somehow missed that the MRSA bacteria was inside my bones (Osteomyelitis) in my spine as well as my right foot. The bacteria had been eating away at my spine/bones the whole time making it Fracture in multiple places. The pressure of the buildup of fluids/swelling/and multiple fractures has left me mostly immobile and in debilitating pain.
I'm now at home with Supervised "At Home Care Services", by Kaiser Nurses/Phlebotomists/Physical Therapists etc.
I am in a back brace, and have a PIC Line to administer IV antibiotics multiple times a day. I'm in debilitating pain, with the fractures/swelling/and bone hitting a nerve cluster Everytime I try to move even a little bit. The fractures cannot be fixed with an ongoing infection, or it will spread, so I'm forced to deal with the extreme pain.
I will be having surgeries to repair my back, my foot, and colostamy reversal. They will have to cut me open again from the front, move my organs out of the way, and do the surgeries from the front.
My right foot also has the infection. The bacteria ate away at the bones and weakned them. The arch and bones in my foot fractured and collapsed creating a (charcot foot type of situation). This needs to be surgically repaired.
I will be having a third major procedure for "Colostamy Reversal Surgery" after my back and foot surgery.
I was released from the hospital after 3 months. Within a week and a half, I went into septic shock again at home. The infection had not completely gone away, and came back full force to then move into my muscles (mostly in my legs and lumbar area of my back).
I can't even explain how much pain I am in, even with multiple of the strongest pain killers that exist. l hate taking stuff like this, but have no other choice right now.
Dealing with all of this stuff has been incredibly tough. I feel like I'm all alone, and losing hope, and the pain gets so bad, I'll just lay in bed and cry myself to sleep sometimes. I've gone from being in the gym 15+ hours a week, to an extreme battle just trying to get up and out of bed.
I have bills that are racking up, and can really use your help.
While I was in the hospital the first time, Rancho Cucamonga Police Department towed my car on the city street, right by my residence. They said that you can't leave your car parked in the same spot for more than 72 hours. To get it out, they charged me almost $2300.00. I told them what I had just encountered, and they didn't care. The Hospitals Social Workers also wrote a letter. They said that there was "Nothing that they could do, and nobody I could appeal it with. ".
I don't like asking people for help, but I'm in this very serious situation where I absolutely need help, and I humbly ask if you would be willing to help me out.
I'm trying to keep my head up and get through this. The statistics for surviving Severe Sepsis, with other complications is really not good, especially since I've had it twice now. .IF they can get rid of the infection, (which they haven't been able to do in over 9months) my chances of living for even a couple years is really bad. This very well could be my last Christmas.
I've had 'The Talk" from my doctor's explaining that I'm almost out of options. None of the Antibiotics are getting rid of the infection, and I'm allergic to almost all of the antibiotics that could possibly work. If they don't work, well then die. I think the have 1 remaining antibiotic to try if Teflaro doesn't get rid of it. After 3+ months, it still hasn't gotten rid of it. I'm freaking out worried about dying.
The help and donations are going towards items listed below, These things will greatly help me out. Please help me out if you can. Don't put yourself in a bad situation for me.
Examples of Things Im requesting monetary help for.
1. Past due bills: car payments/insurance/Utilities, phone bills
2.. Copays Medical and Prescription.
3. Multiple Ambulance bills
4. An electronic scooter so I can get around outside/inside of the house/to and from medical appointments (which my insurance won't cover). I am unable to walk long distances at the hospital to get to mandatory appointments for scans, follow- ups, cultures, consultations with surgeons etc. It'll also allow me to go to the store and get things I need.
4. Services that my insurance won't cover, that can potentially help with mobility and pain management, ex. Chiropractor, Acupuncture, more physical therapy, massage therapy.
5. Everyday expenses
6. Colostamy supplies/medical supplies not covered. I need more supplies than my insurance will cover. I've reached out with some Ostamy donation places, and they have been out.
8.In home modifications/Or Assistive devices, chair lifts (to get upstairs to my bedroom/bathroom safely.
9. bathtub railings or conversion from bath to shower.
9. An adjustable medical bed
10. retrofit my car to be able to transport the electric scooter.
11. Personal trainer/Physical therapists to get me stronger.
12.Better quality food to revamp my diet, hopefully keeping me from having a round 3 of sepsis and to heal better and faster now/and after the upcoming surgeries.
I have 3 very major surgeries coming up soon.
- Neurosurgery for my back in multiple places.
- Right foot surgery for fractured bones and arch repair.
- Ostomy reversal surgery
I want to say how grateful I am in advanced for people like you, that are willing to go out of your way to help and care for someone in a bad situation like me. People like you give me the hope and willpower to survive and get better. I will surely pay it forward. Prayers are always very much appreciated also.
I am not in the clear. The infection is definitely still there. I've been on IV vancomycin for close to 6 months, and Teflaro for another 3+ month, and the MRSA infection in my spine is still in there. I'm already on the world's most powerful antibiotics. If it doesn't work, there's really not a whole lot they can do. I'm very scared that it's not going to work, as the infection shouldve already been gone. Having to worry about these bills that just keep stacking, struggling with pain, and the fear of dying is starting to get to me.
I'm hoping this post will show me that there are people that still do care out there..
I understand funds are tight right now. If you don't have funds to help me out, can you please share my gofundme link on your page a couple times in a week. The best bet for me to get help is sharing my link and asking others to repost. Please help me out. Even the smallest amounts add up.
Hugs and Love to you all, and genuine thanks. I pray your good deed will come back to you.
Sincerely, Jeffrey Cardin.
