Travis was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the throat in March of 2025. He underwent 37 radiation treatments and 7 chemo treatments and managed to keep working up until the very end. We rang the bell and thought the worst was over. Travis became very ill in a short period of time during the summer and has been unable to return to work. He began to have dizzy and fainting spells. Recently, Travis had his PET scan to determine the next steps, and it revealed that we might be facing colon cancer in addition to the SCC. Travis also developed a rare side effect from the radiation that has caused lockjaw-type symptoms, leaving him unable to open his mouth. Hoping to avoid a feeding tube, we've been relying on liquid nutritional supplements. Unfortunately, these are very hard on our budget, and Travis continues to lose weight. We hope to have a more thorough update on all this by the end of September.
The paid family leave has run out and we are currently trying to file for unemployment or disability. We are also looking into getting a medical social worker to help us file for grants and help with utility bills. I've been job searching and hope to have found something very soon, as well as running a small online shop of used goods to help pay for Levi's school needs and other incidentals. We are doing everything we can to bridge the gaps financially, but we're coming up short and starting to drown as we are hit with late fees and another $2000 due on rent. We are hoping to not lose this house and make it through the holidays, but with nothing coming in currently, we feel we must try this GoFundMe to make it work.
We also have a Venmo account and an Amazon list of Travis's needs and small household items for those of you who don't want to donate through this site. We appreciate just sharing the GoFundMe. We thank everyone who has already donated, and those of you that have sent supplemental drinks are a real blessing. Thanks for reading and look for an update in the next couple of weeks.
