Support Matt's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
On Saturday, June 22nd, Matt was returning from doing trail maintenance in the wilderness when he had an accident. He was on a narrow portion of the trail when he hit his foot peg on a small tree and lost control of the bike. He was found on the ground with obvious severe trauma to his leg. Luckily, he was with skilled riders that packed him out to the trailhead where they were met by an ambulance.

Upon arrival at the hospital, it was found that he had severed his popliteal artery causing compartment syndrome. Immediate limb salvage surgery was performed to create a bypass, repair the damaged artery to return blood supply to the lower leg as well as a fasciotomy to reduce compression and further damage. On Monday, June 24th, a second surgery was performed to place an external fixation device to stabilize the knee. Due to the severity of his injuries, assessing orthopedic damage at this time has been put on hold. They are worried it may interfere with healing of the artery and cause additional trauma. It is expected that he will have to undergo at least a couple additional surgeries once stable to repair torn ligaments, muscles, and tendons. This will be staggered to allow for appropriate healing between each surgery.

All funds donated will help cover medical expenses toward deductible and out of pocket costs as well as cover costs as Matt will be unable to work for the foreseeable future. This is going to be a long road to recovery so any amount will help ease the burden of lost income.

Matt is so strong and driven, he is now stable and working hard to be able to return home.
