Urgent help required to get Peter home

Hello, my name is Tony Simcock and I’m raising funds for my brother-in-law, Peter Nelson.

Peter is one of life’s eccentrics, for many years he has been seen riding his penny farthing or one of his classic motorbikes around Northern Ireland.

He’s an artist and engineer and goodness knows what else.

Unfortunately much of that changed last Boxing Day when he had a strong tingling sensation in his legs, by the time he had got to hospital he had pretty much lost all use of his legs.

Doctors discovered it was cancerous spinal tumor. Thanks to their incredible work, Peter is now receiving the treatment he needs. Sadly, the cancer has left permanent damage, and Peter has been told he will never walk or ride again and is totally paralysed from the waist down

Now we’re looking to the future. Peter has already had two discharge dates from the spinal unit and hopes to return home very soon. His house in Bangor, Northern Ireland, is currently being renovated to make the downstairs area accessible, with a new bedroom, kitchen, and wet room. The goal is to ensure he can live at home safely and with a degree of dignity.

However, time is really against us. If Peter is discharged before the house is ready, he will have to go into a nursing home at a cost to him of around £1,000 per week.

One urgent need is an external electric wheelchair lift. The current ramps are simply too steep for safe, everyday use, making access extremely difficult without strong constant help. An electric lift would give Peter independence, safety, and the freedom to move in and out of his home.

We are asking for your help to raise the funds needed for this essential equipment. Any donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference in Peter’s life and bring him closer to returning home to start this strange new life he now faces.

Thank you so much for your support.

Tony

It’s only a small lift needed giving 660mm of lift, but there is simply no space for a ramp (legal minimum slope of 1 in 12)
