Pat’s Brain Surgery Recovery

Hello family and friends. I am Liseta, Patrick and Bobbi's daughter.

In September 2018 Pat had a seizure while at work, he was brought to the Hibbing hospital to run some tests and scans. While he was there the results came back showing that he had some sort of mass on his brain. He was then transferred to Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. While he was there they diagnosed the mass as an Arteriovenous malformation (AVM).

What is an AVM you ask- it is a tangle of blood vessels that connect veins and arteries into one big clump.

Due to the location and the size of his AVM, it was applying pressure to a part of his brain causing him to have seizures and requiring him to take seizure medications. There was a high % of the AVM rupturing so the best option was to remove the AVM.

Pat had a craniotomy and removal of the AVM on March 9th which went great. It was an 8-hour surgery and he was then placed in the ICU.

Since then he has had to have a procedure to remove the rest of the AVM in which they used a thin tube through a vessel through his groin into his brain.

Unfortunately, there was a complication and has bleeding around his brain and had to have a second craniotomy done to control the bleeding.

We are unsure of the date that he will be able to return home and what his recovery will look like at this time.

I am sure you all know that they would give their shirts off their back and hate asking for help.
