I’m raising funds to cover the cost of my upcoming top surgery, which is scheduled for the start of March in Madrid. This surgery is something I’ve been working toward for years and years. I’ve been out as nonbinary for a long time, and having top surgery is an important step in helping me feel comfortable and at home in my body. It’s taken years of saving and planning to get here, and I’m so close to finally making it a reality.

The surgery itself costs around £5,630, and recovery will require me to stay in Madrid for at least two to three weeks. Accommodation for that period comes to about £1,600, with additional expenses for travel, medical travel insurance, and other essentials while I heal. Altogether, the costs are more than I can manage alone, even with my own contributions, but this is still much cheaper than getting surgery in the UK.

I’ve chosen to have surgery in Spain because the current NHS wait times for top surgery are many years long (sometimes around 4 years) and not always accessible to nonbinary people, and private surgery in the UK is significantly more expensive (often between £9,000–£12,000). The clinic in Madrid is highly recommended, provides excellent care, and offers this surgery at a much more affordable cost.

That’s why I’m here. Asking for help isn't easy, and it’s a bit scary to put myself out there, but every contribution really does make a difference.
