Jackie's Journey

As many of you may already know, our beautiful friend Jackie Bond Pearsall was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, better known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, in September 2021. It is truly a cruel disease that attacks the nervous system and affects one’s ability to eat, speak, swallow, walk, write, and be independent with daily life skills. The muscles in the body decline to the point of complete immobility, but the mind is completely aware of everything going on.

Jackie is only 52 years old. She has been married to her loving husband, Brian, for 25 years, and they have two incredible sons: Adam, 21, and Kyle, 18. They have been living in Commack, New York, since 2004. Jackie has devoted her life to her family and friends. She always puts everyone first and is the most selfless person with the biggest heart.

In 2005, Jackie started working at Park Shore Country Day School and Camp in Dix Hills, New York, until her diagnosis in 2021. She loved spending her days with her Parkshore family. She was immensely impacted by the daily interactions with the children and their families at Park Shore.

Jackie is a “family first” girl! She has devoted her life to her family, friends, and community. Jackie is an incredibly strong woman who has always been there for everyone in good and bad times.

Unfortunately, ALS is a costly disease that is not covered by insurance. Costs are estimated at $100,000 -$200,000 per year. Therefore, we are doing this Go Fund Me Page to help Jackie and her family adapt to this new lifestyle. We will use this funding to provide Jackie with a full-time caretaker, adaptations to make their home handicap accessible, a customized-power wheelchair, an eye-gaze augmentative device, a van to transport her, and more.
