In January, my dad went to his GP doctor to check on a lesion on his tongue. They prescribed antibiotics and sent him on his way. Two weeks later, there was no change. Taking his own initiative, he went to an Ear, Nose and Throat doctor. The doctor did a biopsy right then and there, and after a long week of waiting, my dad got the diagnosis: cancer of the tongue. The doctor immediately scheduled a PET scan, which showed something else - cancer in his lymph node.

He has never been a tobacco user, has never smoked or dipped.
He was given several treatment options, including: radiation, chemotherapy, surgery or a combination. After meeting with each specialist, the best option for remission is surgery. This will remove 50% of his tongue (hemiglossimecyomy) and a side neck dissection to remove lymph nodes. This means months of therapy to learn how to swallow, eat, and speak.
Before being cleared for surgery, he has appointments (and copays) to attend - getting an echocardiogram, a nuclear stress test, and finally a pre-op clearance with his cardiologist. His surgery is scheduled for April 12th.

While the prognosis is very good, he has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Your donation will go towards mounting copays, medication and any procedures or providers not covered by his insurance.
Your thoughts, your prayers and your support are humbly appreciated.
