As many of you know, Monica has been diagnosed with a large retro-peritoneal liposarcoma. They discovered a large mass in her abdomon in July and determined it was a cancer in September.
It began with pain in July, when they discovered the mass. After being referred on several times to different surgeons, she finally contacted Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore in mid August.
With the first trip to Baltimore for CT scans and appointments on Sept 10th, it was believed that she had Sarcoma. After biopsies, it was confirmed. She had cancer.
After a brief return home, she returned to Johns Hopkins for additional testing and meetings with specialists to determine the best course of treatment. At this time, they decided that radiation was not the best option because of the size and location of the tumer to vital organs. The benefits don't outweigh the risks. So now they will be going ahead with surgery to remove the tumor as well as the right kidney. After surgery they will determine if any other treatments, such as radiation or chemotherapy will be necessary.
As a mother of 5 kids, and grandmother of 4 grand daughters, she is very well loved and loves them ALL. She owns a daycare and had been providing child care for over 20 years. She was a Girl Scout leader for 13 years and taught religious education for many years. So as you can tell she has touched the lives of many people in our community.
Please find it in your hearts to help this wonderful lady and her family with travel, medical expenses and loss of income, as they will have several more trips to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. Prayers are especially welcome!!
