I recently read the following quote by Ellen K. Wookey - “We never know what a day will bring us, but one thing we do know is that every morning we can wake up, smile and hope for the best. SMILE IT'S A NEW DAY” A friend and past co-worker contacted me this morning about his wife Leatha who is currently in the hospital and was diagnosed with throat cancer last week.  She now has a trach where a tube was placed into her windpipe.  With the help of a machine, it pushes air through the tube and into her lung.  She also has a feeding tube because she is unable to take food by mouth safely.  Once discharged from the hospital, she will enter a rehabilitation facility where she will stay until she is stable and can return home to begin cancer treatments.  Having the trach and feeding tube requires special home care that is not covered by insurance.   She will need constant and individual care over a 6-week period during her treatments.  As for my friend, he fractured his fibula and had surgery today, Wednesday, March 31 and will not be able to be help his wife the way he wants to and needs to.  Please know he wants this fund raiser to be all about her and her care.  He is currently furloughed from his place of employment due to COVID and of course, Leatha is not working due to her illness and recent diagnosis.  The unforeseen expenses of home healthcare were not anticipated and not covered by their insurance.  It is a very difficult time for his family right now but, we are hoping for the best and they know they can only take one day at a time.  If you are able to support his GoFundMe by making a donation or sharing it with your network, it would be greatly appreciated.  All donations will go towards the home healthcare not covered by insurance for Leatha.  This is Leatha smiling at this new day.
