Hurricane Ida Relief

Hey everyone, this is Jeffrey, also known as ThatsFairZack on Twitch and other social media handles. You might know me vaguely from the speedrunning scene, specifically doing Lufia II Ancient Cave speedruns, or running randomizers especially FFIV Free Enterprise.

So why am I making a Gofundme?

I live in the New Orleans area and I was impacted by the recent Category 4, Hurricane Ida. I just bought my house 9 months ago in January after going through a terribly stressful almost year lasting house purchasing process. And only after 9 months, my house sustained a lot of damage from the storm.

The more major damage to my house is the fact that the front porch awning which was an aluminum connected part of the roof, completely ripped off my roof and tore off the entire front roof of my house and exposed the whole ceiling part of the interior of the house to the 100+ MPH wind and rain. This caused all the Sheetrock, and insulation throughout the walls and ceilings to absorb water and it caved into my living room as seen from the picture I used for this fundraiser. The living room caved in destroying my ceiling and everything in my living room in that particular area.

There are dozens of areas throughout the houses where water was settling into the sheet rock almost caving in but luckily it didn’t but ruined the ceiling and integrity of the house meaning it all has to be replaced. There’s also mold throughout the house where the ceiling is wet:

Its pretty much like this throughout the interior of the house in the ceiling. As far as the walls go, it’s likely saturated and filled with mold as well. As far as the extent of the outside damage besides the roof exposure and tons of area of missing roofing pieces and shingles, my house sustained many other areas of damage as well:

My car also was damaged in the storm from paint peeling to windshield damage and scratches throughout.

Other things include such as losing all my food in my fridges from no electricity:

This is just some of the extent of the damage and toll it’s taken. But there’s lots of small things here and there and likely things I haven’t even noticed or seen.

For Transparency, I have Home Owners Insurance and my car is fully insured. Their deductibles are around the asking goal. The reason for the gofundme is all the uncertainty. The things that insurance might deny me on, and things they don’t cover. The time I’ll have to spend out of my house, and being away from my job for an uncertain amount of time although they are being lenient with me as of right now. I don’t know what kind of expenditures I’ll have throughout the process and I don’t know when and how long these things will take to be reimbursed through insurance and FEMA. Speaking of FEMA, we applied for them, but got denied because we have Home Owners Insurance. The reason that FEMA gave us, was that whatever the insurance doesn’t cover, they will, and as of writing this gofundme, I still have yet to hear from my insurance field inspector who we contacted over a week ago.

Theres so many people struggling and going through similar instances, so I imagine the system is overloaded. I don’t have a time expectancy of normality and I don’t really know where else to turn. I have a few contractors lined up to come look at the house but I have not yet received call backs or times, so things haven’t even started. I can’t even pay them till my insurance does it’s thing either.

Any help is appreciated whether the goal gets met or not. Any advice is also appreciated and you may contact me on any form of social media that you can to offer any guidance or advice. I’m trying to go through all the proper channels I can but with everything moving so slowly and these deductibles and everything else, I’m just getting anxious and worried. I just want to go home, I just want to stream and play games with everyone again. I just want to feel secure in my home with my puppy Ellinia and my cat Cloud and my fiancé, Krystle.
