Jeff's Fund for living with cancer

Donation protected
I am writing this story on behalf of the twenty-year love of my life, Jeff Reed.

On December 9, 2014, Jeff’s life changed forever. This was when the first symptom appeared of what would eventually be diagnosed on 12/18/14 as stage 4. malignant, terminal glioblastoma or simply aggressive, uncureable brain cancer.

Jeff is an amazing man. He is the life of the party, the quick-witted, smart mouthed, hero of all who know him. He is kind, happy, energetic, stubborn, determined and dedicated. He is famous for our “Almost Annual Ohio State” football parties which bring together 200 of his closest friends for food, fun, football and fireworks that nearly get him arrested every year. He will go out of his way to help someone in need, just ask his neighbors.

Jeff has three significant passions: his family and friends (it is said we surround ourselves with people like ourselves and Jeff's family and friends are tremendous humans), our dogs-Emma a 7-month old Rottweiler whom we dubbed Emma Diabla and Cassie our nearly 11-year old perfect Golden Retriever, and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He has a team for all seasons and when the television is on, it is nearly always sports related (on special occasions he watches Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives with me).

All of our vacations revolve around sports. Last Fall we were blessed to have made a “bucket list” trip to Columbus, OH to watch our beloved Ohio State Buckeyes massacre Kent State 66-0. I pray that we might be able to take another trip there together this year.   We also make an annual trek to Las Vegas in March for March Madness with a stopover in Phoenix to catch LA Angels pre-season baseball.

Jeff has owned his own painting company for over 20 years and is highly regarded in the community as a perfectionist and sought after contractor. This man worked 7 days a week, overnights, and odd hours to meet the needs of his contracts. He loved his work and took great pride in a job well done.

Jeff will probably not paint again, if he does, it will be sparingly and when or if he is physically able. At his follow up neurosurgical appointment in the beginning of January 2015, his neurosurgeon, begrudgingly conceded that allowing Jeff to possibly work 4-8 hours a week might help to keep him motivated throughout his radiation and chemotherapy regime. He has not been able to work at all. The position of the cancer has rendered him unable to cognitively comprehend the fact that he will most likely never work again. That is probably a blessing and a curse.

If I could have one wish, it would be for us to travel one more time to Columbus and see a game, meet Urban Meyer and (wishful thinking) Eddie George before I have to say goodbye to Jeff.  The Ohio State Buckeyes have brought so much joy and on occasion heartache into our lives and I am not sure how life is going to look when Jeff dies and I am left to cheer alone. I am not asking that you make this possible, I am asking that you pray for us and maybe remember Jeff and his passion for Buckeyes…

Thank you for your time, your thoughts, your prayers and your kindness. I love him more than words can convey.
