Mum survived a coma, now she needs your help to make it home
Donation protected
In June 2025, our vibrant mum’s life changed overnight. One moment, she was laughing and travelling. The next, she was in critical condition and doctors told us to say our goodbyes.
Today, Nena, 59, is facing her fifth surgery. Her only chance of survival is to get home to Australia for urgent, advanced care. The only way to do this is by air ambulance, costing a minimum of $200,000.
Who She Is
Nena is the proud and devoted mother of eight children and the full-time carer for her youngest daughter, Ashley, who has an intellectual disability and autism. Ashley depends on Mum for the love, care, and advocacy that only a mother can give.
She is also “Abuela” to 13 grandchildren who adore her and just want their grandma back home. Nena is the life of every party the music, the laughter, the delicious home cooking, and the sparkle of Christmas. She’s always been the first to give, even when she had little herself.

What Happened
While travelling in Peru, Mum became critically ill and went into septic shock. She was placed into an induced coma and has endured severe complications, including:
• Multiple haemorrhages, requiring blood transfusions
• Chest tube to drain fluid from her lungs
• 5 abdominal drains to remove collection in her abdomen
• Feeding tube (currently unable to used)
• Central venous catheter for nutrition.
Against all odds, Nena has woken from her coma. Her strength, faith in God, and love for her family have kept her alive but the fight is far from over.

✈️ Why We Need Your Help
We’ve fought tirelessly to support our mum, both emotionally and financially, while navigating the challenges of the Peruvian healthcare system. But now, we’ve exhausted every resource.
To survive, she must be flown home to Australia for treatment that can’t be provided where she is. An air ambulance is her only hope, and we need to raise at least $200,000 urgently.

❤️ How You Can Help
This is the hardest thing we’ve ever had to do asking for help. But right now, your kindness could mean the difference between life and death.
Every dollar will go directly towards:
✅ The urgent medical flight to Australia
✅ Associated medical and logistical costs to get Mum into an Australian hospital
If you cannot donate, please share this page far and wide. Time is running out.

Nena’s greatest wish is simple to get home to Ashley, hold her grandchildren again, and keep watching her family grow.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your love, support, and prayers.
With gratitude,
Nena’s Children
