Who this will help

My name is Lori, I am Angie and Andy Nelson's sister in law. For anyone that knows Angie and Andy, know that they are some of the first people to jump up to help someone in need whenever and wherever they can. Now it is our turn to help them as they have a long road a head of them.

Due to Angie carrying the BRCA1 gene and having an extensive family history of cancer, doctors wanted her to start having an MRI every year along with her Mammogram (Mammogram one month and then 6 months later an MRI). September 28th Angie had her first MRI, it was then that they found a couple concerning spots and they had her follow up with an ultrasound on October 3rd, which confirmed the concerns which lead to having a biopsy.

On October 13th, Angie found out she has Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Stage 2, stage 2 because it has already spread to her lymph nodes. The plan is for Angie to receive 16 weekly chemo treatments, then 6-8 weeks after her last treatment she will go in for a double masectomy, then she will follow that up with radiation.

While they hope to be able to have weekly chemo treatments, unfortunately that will likely not always be the case. She has already had to miss one week because she ended up getting Covid. With her immune system taking the hit it will with the chemo, she will likely have other bumps in the road.

Why I'm fundraising

Angie will be heading into her 5th treatment tomorrow 12/14. Angie works as a Para at an elemenary school. She loves working with the kiddos and whenever she talks about her job, it brings a smile to her face. Unfortunately, while Angie was recovering from Covid, she used up the last of her paid sick days that she had.

Andy is working 10-12 hour days so that he is able to be with Angie during her chemo treatments.

On top of all of this, they are still parents, her and Andy have 4 kids. Michaela is 23, Zach is 21, Christian is 16 and Nataleigh is 15. Zach and his girlfriend Selena had a baby in October, Little Sophia is an absolute joy to her Grandma and Grandpa! Michaela and her fiance are also expecting and will be having their little one in April!

The impact of your support

Any money raised will go towards any out of pocket medical expenses and it will also help them pay bills that their paychecks won't cover due to missing work. We just want to be able to bring some relief to this family while they are going through an extremely difficult time. We want to try and make things just a little less stressful for them right now.
