I am Gage Halverson, a high school senior in Portland, Oregon. I have exciting adventures ahead of me and I am hoping you can help me in my fundraiding efforts.

August 2015 my family and I traveled to Orlando, Florida to attend the Up With People 50th Reunion where my dad (Chip Halverson, UWP Cast 91C) met up with his cast members and their families. Until that time I didn't fully understand what UWP was really about. I met friends from all over the world and joined over 4,000 alumni and their families to celebrate the impact UWP has had on the world for five decades. It was an amazing experience that changed my life, my goals and my future.
During the week in Orlando Florida, I went through the interview process. I have been accepted as a cast member of UWP Cast B 2016, along with an international group of students who will travel the world for a semester (or two) of service. I am excited to join UWP and experience a variety of opportunities to travel, serve and volunteer in communities, experience cultural immersion with host families and perform a dynamic show full of music and dancing with my fellow cast members who will become lifelong friends.
For over 50 years UWP, a non-profit organization, has been providing a unique combination of performing arts, community service, international travel and host family exchange to make a positive impact in each community they visit. After staging in Denver, Colorado for six weeks, we will be traveling throughout the United States, Mexico, Sweden, Finland and Estonia for the first semester. I look forward to sending out photos and updates throughout my travels!
Traveling with UWP for one semester is $17, 450. I have saved some money from various jobs and will be hosting a fundraising event in Portland. I am hoping to travel the entire year if I am able to raise the remaining funds. Currently I have set my fundraing goal at $4,000 which will ensure one semester of travel. If I am able to exceed my goal, I will be able to travel both semesters, an entire year.
My goal is to have all the funds raised by June 10th, however, I will keep my GoFund Me page up to accept donations so you can still dontate after that date. I have a donor that will match the first donations, dollar for dollar, up to $5,000. If you donate $100, this donor will match it and your donation will become $200. You may donate on my GoFundMe page or contact me or my parents for other opportunites to get involved.
Our world desperately needs the message of compassion, understanding, and peace that UWP shares with communities around the world. I feel humbled and honored to be chosen as an ambassador and connect with people in communities around the world. I am exteremely grateful for your support, generosity and investment in my future travels with UWP. I look forward to taking your love and friendship around the world.
