Many of you know my brother Kevin and know his life of struggle...
Kevin has not been dealt a very fair hand in life! The oldest son of my parents, he was born deaf and a bit congitively delayed. He struggled with diabetes most of life, having his right foot amputated a few years back because of infection. He goes to dialysis 3x’s a week because he only has 5% kidney function.
While he is definitely self sufficient, even working at McDonalds to make ends meet, he struggles with everyday responsibilities and decisions that we may take for granted, or overlook, (ie, well being, hygiene, health care decisions, etc) so when he stepped on a toothpick this September and it punctured his foot he didn’t think much of it! The puncture wound to his foot was much worse than Kevin even realized, and he let the wound go without any sort of treatment for wks.
Kevin called me Thanksgiving morning and said he didn’t feel well and thought he needed to go to the hospital to have his foot looked at. My sister and I took him and they immediately started an IV, admitted him and performed emergency surgery to amputate his big toe (it was completely dead as was the surrounding tissue) and hopefully save his other toes and foot...
Well low and behold the surgery was only partially successful because the infection continued to spread and he was readmitted yesterday and underwent another emergency surgery to amputate yet another toe.
So now he is left with no right foot and a left foot that only has 3 toes.
While he does have health insurance, they only cover 70% of his medical bills and with all of his surgeries and dialysis the medical bills are mounting!
Kevin is in desperate need of a prosthetic for his right shoe, in order to be able to walk properly.
We are hoping to raise enough money to help Kevin with his medical bills, buy a prosthesis for his shoe, and if a miracle takes place, build him a tiny house to live in.
Never would I imagine myself starting a go fund me, but I need to do what I can do to help my brother!!
I love him and want to see him NOT struggle with life, for just ONCE in his life.....
And while Kevin is loved by all of his family, his parents, his siblings and his nieces and nephews, he has never felt the love from marriage, or children of his own, and he may never experience those milestones we take
for granted!! I’ll tell you what he does know though are unfair things you and I probably don’t experience on a daily basis.... daily ridicule because of your speech, loneliness day in and day out, and literally living paycheck to paycheck because Social Security benefits are minimal, the list goes on....
Hoping even if it’s just $1.00, if enough people give, we can make a difference in Kevin’s financial hardship!!
