Paradise Lost

Donation protected
The horribly tragic Camp Fire destroyed every structure in the charming all American town of Paradise, California. My nephew Kyle and his wife Kala, in their mid-twenties, bought their first house earlier this year in Paradise. Sadly, all that remains of it now is the fireplace. They were forced out of their home on Thursday morning, racing for their lives and escaping through a wall of fire. Thankfully they are safe. They managed to take only their dog, their computers, and a change of clothing.  But they still have their youthful energy and eternal optimism.

Kyle and Kala personify "the good guys" - the salt of the earth. They are always the first to show up and work tirelessly to help anyone in need. They never stop striving to make this world a better place.

Insurance will help make them whole to some extent. Regrettably, however, I know from personal experience that insurance companies are disinclined to pay claims. Attorneys are often required to obtain an equitable settlement. In my own family's recent experience, our legal fees for this purpose have exceeded $75,000.

My mother used to say we often can't help those who help us, but we can instead "pass on the favor." If you would like to help Kyle and Kala rebuild their lives, I know that they would be enormously grateful.

Thank you ever so much for considering them.
