Kai & Naeem's Top Surgery Fund

To reduce a colossal feeling to a few words is something I do a lot as a poet but this one is bigger than I thought. Sometimes I dream about waking up after surgery with nobody waiting to take me home. I know the whole community stands waiting for us though.

When I first met Naeem all my facade of emulating masculinity crumbled. I didn’t need to care how I stood, if my jaw looked strong or if my hand shake felt like the grip of a man. We were soft and vulnerable. Open and honest. I remembered for a second what it meant to let your body rest and just enjoy the present. I felt safe. I felt the most masculine I had ever because I thought nothing of masculinity. I cannot wait to feel my body completely rest for the first time.

The queer community really gave me a home when I needed it, a space to thrive and giving back to it is a honour. However trying to be black queer creatives saving for surgery to change our lives feels often almost impossible. Which is why the support from those surrounding us is key. Nothing is too little and everything is appreciated. We are father and son who are trying to constantly change the narratives of representation for trans men and masc presenting folk. We try to open dialogue, give parts of our past, reimagine and create the future all whilst trying to battle with dysphoria and a health system that is not always built for blackness or queerness. We are accustom to building a world, platform for us by us. But this time we too ask for all of you to help us build enough stacks to be truly us, free.

WHO WE ARE

Naeem Davis co founder of BBZ london a curatorial collective and club night that centres queer trans and non binary people of colour.

Kai-Isaiah Jamal is a spoken word poet/performer and writer who builds dialogue on often the 'unspoken'. As a TPOC Kai-Isaiah focuses on creating work that predominately explores the matters of gender, masculinity and race. His work is centred on understanding, responding and defying social norms and creating articulate, thought-provoking and most importantly authentic responses to issues that he and his community face

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Naeem is planning on getting their Top Surgery March 2019 and needs to secure the funds before their appointment date.

£20,000 is our estimated cost, and any extra funds will contribute to time spent healing and the materials needed for aftercare!

All funds raised will ensure that we receive the highest quality treatment and support following the procedures.

Your donations will support:

- Private medical care
- Living costs while we heal at home
- Materials and treatments for post-op scarring
- Our eteranal happiness and body confidence

We are so hopeful that by reaching out to the wider community we will receive the vital support we need, the very support that we are constantly told is not there for us.

Our gratitude that we can live in a time where we can share our love for ourselves and our community in public is immeasurable.

Please share and support if you can!
