About 5 months ago over the summer, Blake began experiencing onset vision loss. After countless appointments, specialists, procedures, emergency room and hospital says, he and his family finally have a diagnosis. With a diagnosis though, comes a ton of expenses and unrealized hardship for Blake. The diagnosis of Leber’s Hereditary Optic Neuropathy is a rare genetic condition which causes degeneration of retinal ganglion cells that leads to a loss of central vision. In other words, Blake has lost 40% of his vision in one eye and 30% in the other and his vision loss is very likely to progress even more. The problems are... it’s so rare, that there are no FDA approved treatments and there’s no cure. On the plus side, There are some highly rated clinical trials in various city’s across the United States (and even out of the country..) that might really benefit Blake and his condition. There are other types of technology and support that look very promising for Blake’s specific case as well. Obviously, those come with a very large financial burden.
We’re creating this go fund me in order to assist and support Blake and his family with all the unforeseen expenses that go along with this new diagnosis.
It’s going to be a whole new way of life for Blake in the coming months and even years. But as they navigate this journey, It’s important for us to remind them they’re not alone. If you can help in any way, it will be most appreciated! Thank you so very much. ** In order to stay transparent in all of this; Blake’s mom, Amanda Devlin will be the intended “beneficiary” to this GoFundMe campaign. She will be responsible for any money collected through this and will be dispersing funds as she sees fit for Blake and his best interests.
