On Friday, December 30th, around 6pm, my dad's dog was hit by a car. He called me hysterically upset. When I arrived, I could see that he had a severe leg injury but didn't know if he had other injuries. Immediately, we started calling vets because I knew he needed help. My dad was inconsolable as his dog lay by his feet. We tried every single vet you can think of from Marquette to Crivitz all the way to Appleton and no one would take him. We were told the closest place that could possibly take him was 3.5 hours away. My dad had surgery earlier in the day and couldn't take him from the medication he was prescribed. We loaded Milo into my car in a heartbreaking scene of trying to move this poor dog and I started driving. We reached out to other vets to see if anything closer could help. I was told that a vet more local could help us. We were thrilled so we turned around and headed there. We were about half way when they called and said they couldn't take him after all. We were devastated. The only thing we could do was wait until the next day and try again. I parked my car in front of my dad's, dog in the backseat, and a family angel slept in the back with him until this morning. At 830, the emergency vet clinic said they had room. We jumped back in the car and started driving. We arrived at the clinic where they immediately came out and got him. They took him and and gave him pain medication. They did an ultrasound to rule out internal injuries. They sedated him to complete xrays. His ribs, hips and other legs were ok. He suffered a severe compound fracture to his back left leg. The only course of treatment was to amputate. He has to stay and be on antibiotics because the wound was exposed. They will do surgery on Monday and if all goes well he will come home Tuesday. This poor dog spent over 14 hours in my backseat because we couldn't get him help. He is now in the hospital ICU receiving IV antibiotics because he had an open compound fracture that caused bone to be exposed all that time. Overall, he was very lucky but the financial situation of saving him is adding up quickly. This dog is everything to my dad. I would appreciate any help anyone can give. Please help my dad recover some of the cost of saving this sweet boy.
