Hi! We're Manic Theatre Company: a theatre collective fully produced and led by emerging student artists, for emerging student artists.
The Mission
As students who find ourselves constantly threatened by budget cuts to arts and education programs, we feel it's important to create more spaces where young creatives can experiment, collaborate, and push the boundaries of their artistry. We're committed to creating growth opportunities for new creators outside of the standard theatre school curriculum. For our 2026 show, we're focused on learning how to design and perform theatre in unconventional public venues, as well as exploring theatrical roles that most training programs don't cover in-depth (such as producing, financial management, directing, and dramaturgy). We want to provide an opportunity to create socially relevant, exciting new work for theatre in Toronto - and we believe this project will do just that.
The Show
We're staging an immersive outdoor production of The Grown-Ups by Simon Henriques and Skylar Fox. A dark comedy originally performed in a backyard in Brooklyn, The Grown-Ups follows five twenty-something camp counsellors suddenly grappling with the meaning of adulthood as they find themselves responsible for their campers' safety amidst increasing political unrest. As camp traditions change and the future gets more and more uncertain, the counsellors must decipher how to prepare as the unthinkable draws nearer. Each night, audience members will gather around the campfire and under the stars with us - an unconventional, exciting way to enter a theatrical world.
