A father whose footballer son had a devastating stroke at only 17 years old, has signed up to take part in the Stroke Association’s Resolution Run on Sunday 1 March to raise vital funds for the charity.

Rob and Joanne Rush from Hanworth want to both raise awareness of stroke in younger people by supporting the Stroke Association in the Resolution Run in March.

Their son Jac, 17, had complained to his father and mother of a painful headache in December. The next day when they went to check on how he was, they found Jac floppy and unconscious in bed.

The emergency services thought that Jac had had a fit at first, but then when the Paramedics arrived, they immediately realised Jac had had a stroke.

Jac was taken to Charing Cross Hospital, where doctors removed part of his skull to relieve pressure on his brain.

Jac’s mum Joanne, explains, “It was the most terrifying moment you can imagine as a parent. Jac has always been an active, healthy and happy lad – it wasn’t like him to be unwell.”

Jac, who played in the academy team at AFC Hayes and was set to play for the first 11, is still in hospital. He can walk only a few steps and his speech is very limited.

Joanne adds, “It’s sad to think that Jac may never play football again after falling ill two months ago. His dream has always been to join a professional team before his stroke – it’s been a heart-breaking time for the whole family.”

Rob and Joanne Rush now want to raise awareness of stroke in younger people. Rob explains, “Words can’t explain how devastating the stroke has been for Jac and our family – he lived for football. I think that’s really important that people realise strokes don’t affect just older people – they affect young people too.”

We have slept there every night on the floor on a airbed,

We would like put smile on Jac face we are trying raise money for him like funding day or a star to come in to see him.
