My beautiful sister Lyssa Sabia is my world. She is talented and loving. Kind and compassionate. She is a 49 year old mother of 4 wonderful children who lives with her life partner Denise. She owns a dog grooming business with Denise where they share their love and passion for animals.
My sister was diagnosed 6 years ago with cirrhosis of the liver, secondary to autoimmune hepatitis which caused severe internal bleeding. It became so severe at one point that she almost bled to death in her bathroom in front of one of her children. She has undergone several minor surgeries for the bleeding varicies while trying to treat the autoimmune hepatitis. On November 1st however the diagnosis was changed to Advanced Primary Biliary Cholangitis or PBC. A very painful disease and which the doctors stated has pushed her into the end stages of liver failure. Giving her a life span of 1-3 years.
Thankfully she has recently been accepted into the California Stem Cell Treatment Center with an appointment on Nov. 30 th. CSCTC has had promising results in working with autoimmune diseases. They have actually been able to cure it! She has also been put on a transplant list. The thing is, she can't get a transplant without the autoimmune being taken care of because the new liver would be under the same attack. The doctors wanted to start her treatments immediately which would consist of 6-12 treatments with x-ray guided peritoneal injections of her own harvested stem cells, but we were unable to finance them at that time. Insurance will not cover the cost of these procedures and without them we will lose her.
We we are asking for your help. We need help in covering the cost of her treatments and travel expenses due to the fact that she has to travel over 600 miles for her treatments. We are doing all that we can to raise money by liquidating and borrowing what we can but it has become bigger than what we can do alone. We are truly asking for a miracle. The part that I'm struggling with is that this is my sister. My North Star in life. We have faced so much together and I just can't imagine my world without her.
Thank you for your willingness to read Lyssa's story and help us with your donations. Please share this with your family and friends.
**This is an incredibly challenging time for Lyssa and if you know her, would like to reach out to her or just follow along on this journey please don't hesitate to at Lyssa's Fight 4 Life
