Hi everyone! For those that don’t know me, I’m Lysette! I’m a 41 year old single mom. I have been sober for 4+ years. My daughter is 16 and a full time wheelchair user. We also have our fur babies. Violet our Siamese. Indigo our Husky. And my cat niece Memphis. I was recently (September) diagnosed with breast cancer. I found a lump in February. I was turning 40 in March. Just in time for my first mammogram. They said it was ‘possible’ benign. Over the summer it grew and was uncomfortable. I requested another mammogram. Immediately after that test, they scheduled me for a biopsy. Sure enough. Cancer. Everything after was a blur. I had my port placed and started chemotherapy immediately. After only one treatment every side affect wrecked my body. And my mental health. I completed chemo treatments in January. I’m still receiving targeted therapy, which luckily doesn’t have as many side affects. I have managed to keep us afloat financially. Tried to work two jobs throughout. But having missed so much work I can barely catch up. And now I have to prepare for surgery. I’ll be having a double mastectomy. Not only will I be missing work that provides for my family, I’m faced with the fact I won’t be able to physically help my daughter transfer. Or pick up her wheelchair. Cancer doesn’t just affect you physically. It’s just as detrimental on your emotional and mental wellbeing. Every day I wake up wondering how I’m gonna do it. And everyday I wake up, put a smile on my face and get it done. I know financially I can not do this alone. I realize times are hard on everyone right now. Cost of living is insane.
