Lyre Raceway Development Fund

The Lyre Raceway Development Fund has been established by a dedicated subcommittee of the Irish Harness Racing Association (IHRA) to support the development and completion of an exciting new harness racing facility at Lyre, Clonakilty, Co. Cork. This project marks the first major step in the IHRA’s long-term vision to grow, promote and professionalise harness racing across the island of Ireland, helping to elevate the sport and strengthen Ireland’s presence on the international stage.
Funds raised through this campaign will help supplement government grant funding to complete construction of the track and essential supporting infrastructure, including drainage, fencing, track markers and maintenance equipment. Every contribution, no matter the size, will play an important role in bringing this ambitious project to life. We are calling on harness racing enthusiasts, supporters near and far, and members both past and present to get behind this exciting venture and help secure a strong future for the sport.

Beyond harness racing, the development will also provide long-term benefits for the wider local community. We are delighted to have recently signed a licence agreement with Knockskeagh National School, allowing the school access to the grounds for community and sporting use, including GAA and soccer pitches. Following a very positive meeting with the principal and vice principal, it is clear there is real excitement about the opportunities this partnership can create for local children, families and the wider community for years to come.
