We still owe the vet at Chilliwack Animal Hospital $335 if anyone can or would like to pay towards this directly you can call them at 60four 392 0four00 and ask to make a payment towards her outstanding balance. She also is due for vaccinations, has ongoing rehabilitation care and needs a dental cleaning. We have an eye specialist appointment booked for mid October as well. All this to say that we are still raising funds for her care and needs to make sure she gets taken care of and ready for her adoption this fall!

BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED AND SUPPORTED HER THIS FAR!
Meet Miss Lynzie, an almost 4 year old black female cocker spaniel mix. This sweetie pie came into my care on May 24,2025 through the means of a private surrender. From time to time I take on animals whose guardians need to re-home their dogs for various reasons. Lynzie is one of these cases and is truly an amazing dog.
Hello! I am Bernadette, lover of dogs and advocate for better breeding practices and how we care for animals as a society. My love for animals is what motivates me to help educate others about responsible rescue and breeding.
Lynzie's first night was tough for her as she was unsure of where she was and came into our care with her eyes, skin and ears very itchy. We took her right away to our amazing vets at Chilliwack Animal Hospital for a checkup, and appropriate care. This included another visit the following day for urine and blood tests. Poor Lynzie was excessively drinking water and urinating every 5-20 minutes. Thankfully her workup showed no major concerns and some inflammation which we have treated with antibiotics at our vets recommendation. One thing that was apparent as soon as we meet Lynzie was there was something not right with her back knees. Our vet was able to explain that sadly this type of issue (luxating patella) is unfortunately common in certain breeds. It is often due to bad breeding practices, lack of pre-breeding screening within the parents and can even be from an injury. Lynzie was likely born with this as it has impacted both of her back knees and has likely been a discomfort for her all of her life. We want to fix this and make sure she gets the best care and life moving forward!
So far she has been treated for her eye infection (both eyes), skin infection through medicated shampoo (every 5-10 days now) as well as antibiotics to help clear up excessive amounts of yeast and bacteria on her body. We are also monitoring her ears and using an ear cleaner to help keep them free of bacteria. It is likely that we will start her on some allergy medication to provide her further relief in the near future. Poor itchy girl had not been to a vet in over a year so these issues have been ongoing and we are doing everything to make her comfortable. This has also included introducing the use of trazodone to help her settle in as she has some separation anxiety which is understandable with all she has been through. We have also ensured that Lynzie is up to date on her core vaccinations and preventative care like her flea and tick meds to keep her safe and healthy.
Lynzie has currently been taken into foster care by an amazing individual within our community who is very familiar with dogs like Lynzie. They are able to provide a safe space for her to decompress in while we raise funds for her much needed knee surgery. Her foster mom is working on taking Lynzie on short walks and outings as we believe she was likely left at home for long periods and did not receive proper house training and socialization. Lynzie is happy to be around other similarly matched dogs, and to be loved on by the people around her. We have already seen positive changes in her behaviour as she comes out of her shell and her eyes and skin clear up.
Now the work begins where YOU can help her even further on her recovery journey. Our vet has an orthopaedic surgeon who comes in a few times a month, we are in need of at least $2,500 for her right knee surgery to help with her quality of life. There is a 50/50 chance she might need the same surgery on her left knee in the future but we are starting with the right knee as it is the worst and is heavily impacting her movement and comfort at this time. Our vet has discounted the portion of his services/ supplies to help reduce the cost for her surgery. At this time we are hoping to book her surgery by the end of July and allow her to recover in her foster home through physical therapy and rest for 6 weeks after.
Once recovered Lynzie will be available for adoption and will likely need ongoing support for her allergies, a dental cleaning to remove plague and an eye exam from the optometrist. Any additional funds raised will go to these items as well as her ongoing care, training and vet bills.
At this time approx. $1200 in costs (vet, meds, supplies, food, etc) has been spent on Lynzie, much covered through private sponsors which we are already so thankful for.
To donate directly to her surgery you can make a contribution here on Go Fund Me or contact Chilliwack Animal Hospital (reference Bernadette/ Lynzie's knee surgery) at (604) [phone redacted] to make a payment.
Thank you in advance for your support!
