Lynn's Birthday and her Metastatic Breast Cancer

Donation protected
Hello to all.  I know this is not my personality to ask for help (I’m the one helping others), however my family has convinced me to be a bit vulnerable and share my story.

The Disease

Some of you may or may not know that I have stage four metastatic breast cancer.  I’m in my sixth year of this debilitating disease.  I was diagnosed on Feb.13, 2013 at 60 years old with a tiny lump of HR+Her- stage 1 breast cancer. My doctor didn’t see any reason for me to worry. With some radiation and a hormone suppressant, I should do pretty well. I had on and off pains and symptoms, however I was doing really well according to the doctor.  In May of 2017 I was told the disease had spread to my bones. This led to me losing my mobility.  I was in and out of Froedert Hospital during the fall and winter months. The staff were great and kept telling me how wonderful I was doing and how pleasant of a person I was for being in such rough shape.  Finally, a few weeks ago I learned the disease is now taking over my liver.  Unfortunately, nobody seems to know what to do now.

The Challenges

For the past few months, I have been living in a nursing/rehab home in Mt. Cavalry called Villa Loretta.  Despite Medicare and supplemental insurance, the endless weeks in Villa Loretta and trips to Froedert for treatment over the past few months has taken a financial and emotional toll.  It has been an udder surprise and disappointment to learn what is actually covered under Medicare and what is not.  Bill comes to visit me every day.  I was hoping to be able to go home, not only to enjoy the home I have loved for the past 42 years, but also to save some money.  However my condition is too advanced and Bill, with his severe arthritis, won’t be able to help me like he wants and I need.  In addition, I have to rent or purchase my own equipment, including a bed, that insurance or hospice or any service will not cover.  In addition, I need a special lift, wheelchair, transportation to doctor (van rental), oxygen and all the other surprises that seem to be popping up all over.

June 14th 2019

June 14th will be my 67th birthday and most likely my last.  I know a few of you like to gather with me and go out for dinner or send a card, etc.  I will not be able to participate in that kind of celebration.  Instead, this year I’m asking for your help.

How you can help

My goal is to not worry every minute of the day how we are going to pay for everything.   Our financial situation has also taken a toll on Bill, and I would love to be able to relieve some of his stress.  Medicare stopped paying for my medical needs a few months and hospice services don’t pay for as much as I had been led to believe. The bill at Villa Loretta alone is $10,000 a month.  We, of course, do not want to take out a second mortgage.   Like I said in the beginning, I’m rather embarrassed to ask for donations, but hopefully if everyone can donate a couple dollars, they might not kick me out to the street.  Any donation at this time is very much appreciated.

Thank you for your consideration of this need for myself, Bill and Bandit (still keeping mom's chair warm).
