My brother Tim and sister-in-law Lynn have been married for 40 years. They live in Oregon, Wisconsin. In March, Lynn was diagnosed with lung cancer. She had been undergoing chemo but had to stop treatments because she could no longer tolerate them.
In July, with family visiting, the dining room floor buckled under their feet. After insurance adjusters and engineers evaluated the situation, it was determined that the house is unsafe to inhabit due to safety concerns and the presence of mold.
The homeowners insurance paid $10,000 towards estimates that exceed $30,000 of repairs. The company then promptly terminated coverage leaving them without protection. The mortgage company was notified and now will charge an enormous cost unless another company is willing to insure the house.
Adequate repairs to the structural instability could cost much more than original estimates. Currently no contractor has committed to this project.
Tim and his family remain in the house until alternate housing is found and they obtain funding. They also have 2 additional sons. Dan lives in theTwin Cities. Nate & Mara live in the Madison are with their son. The entire family is doing what they can to keep spirits up and maintain hope for a better day.
After multiple hospitalizations, Lynn has begun Hospice care. Hospice helps with a share of current medical expenses, but the family struggles to cover their portion, along with 6 months of accumulated costly medical care and the normal living expenses incurred by a family of 5. Tim and Lynn also have their son and 2 beautiful grandchildren living with them Tim works full time, his son Matt drives for Lyft as able and they coordinate working with caring for Lynn and the kids. The first order of business will be to find temporary housing before structural repairs can begin. After much deliberation we decided we had no choice but to ask for help. Please consider helping this wonderful family in meeting housing and medical expenses.
