Our mother, Lynn Crotto's 70th birthday is today, June 17th, 2020.
She did not know this was the case when we came to celebrate with her.
For those of you who may not know, Lynn was diagnosed with the early stages of Alzheimer's disease 4 years ago. Since then she was able to live at home with support, but in 2019 she moved into a memory care facility to ensure her best quality of life.
The past years have been difficult for our family as we navigate the warren of options and challenges associated with preserving a quality life for mom. We asked ourselves constantly if what we were doing was the best option for her, or if it was even enough. We have had to address issues we didn’t think we would have to face for decades to come.
Through these struggles, we have cried, laughed, yelled. We have learned to accept life for how it arrives, and that our only option is to turn towards our struggles and use our love for our family as motivation to rise to the moment.
Lynn may not have remembered that her birthday was today, but her spirit and love for those she used to know is as vibrant as it was anytime in her life prior.
It is in this spirit that we are creating this space to honor our mother and celebrate her birthday. Ayden and Andrew Crotto will match donations to THE ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION through this page up to $1000. Visit their site to learn more about their amazing work.
