Lynda Lackey was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. She passed away Monday, November 2, 2020, just a few days shy of her 79th birthday. She was the eldest of three daughters born to parents Emilio Guerrero and Ola (Garner) Pryor. She was a bright student and excelled academically. She graduated from Garces Memorial High School (GMHS) in 1959 and went on to receive an associate of arts degree in business from Bakersfield College. Lynda pursued a long and successful career as a banker, working for American National Bank, First Interstate Bank, Community First Bank, and Wells Fargo Bank. She was considered a good friend by many of her customers. There was rarely an outing when she didn’t run into a past customer, and she always remembered their name, often the names of their spouse and children as well. She retired from her role as Assistant Manager at Wells Fargo in 2008.
Lynda will always be remembered for her loving, caring, and giving soul. She put others before herself in every way. Family was the most important part of her life. Over the years, she worked tirelessly to raise three generations of children – three of her own, four of her grandchildren, and two of her great-grandchildren. She was the matriarch and pillar of the family and was deeply loved by all, including several generations of cousins, nieces, and nephews. No matter the event, whether it be sports, birthdays, graduations, or holidays, Lynda was always there, and you knew you were loved and special to her heart.
Aside from her deep devotion to her family, Lynda was also a talented pianist. She was also an amazing cook and poured her love into every meal. She and her daughter often spent their weekends shopping together. Lynda loved taking trips to the casino, accompanied by her daughter and/or son-in-law. She also served as the treasurer for the GMHS reunion committee. She enjoyed watching television and movies in her free time and loved to cuddle with her lap dog, Mylo.
Lynda was preceded in death by her father, Emilio, her mother, Ola, her half-brothers, Michael (Harris) Guerrero and Richard Pryor, her ex-husband, Ronald Lackey, and son Scott Lackey. She is survived by her partner of 40 years, Dan Story, her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Pam Lackey, her daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Frank Shirey, her sisters and brother-in-law, Dolores Calvillo, Cecelia Richardson, and Larry Richardson, her grandchildren, Mark Ramirez, Jonathon Ramirez, Ryan Ramirez, Arin Green, Evan Lackey, and Dylan Lackey, as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lynda’s Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 20, 2020, at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary at 2 pm with a public reception following the service.
